Who we are and what we believe about Jesus, the Bible, and the Church
Pastors Ron and Ava Bates have been married since 1984 and are blessed with two children, Ryan and Hannah.
They have served in church staff ministry positions since 1987 with two different churches (each assignment approximately 9 years) in the North Houston area. In January 2006, they took the step of faith to start a new work by answering the call of God to pastor in Willis, Texas, and The Light Community Fellowship was born!
"We count it a privilege to be able to serve people and shine the light of God's love, salvation and power. It is our prayer that everyone in our community has an opportunity to walk in the light (the knowledge of God) and enter into fellowship with God. At The Light, it is our goal to continually add new ministries and outreaches in order to create more opportunities for you and your family to get involved. Please accept our invitation to visit The Light and enter into fellowship with Him."
-Pastor Ron Bates
Our mission statement is taken from these two scriptures:
"Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.'” Matthew 22:37-40
"Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16
Relationship: Building and maintaining relationship with The Father, The Son, and Holy Spirit, as well as family and friends.
Discipleship: Growing in the knowledge of God's Word and Kingdom through gathering together and participating in fellowship and groups.
Stewardship: Being good stewards of the life God has given us by serving in the church, using our gifts, talents, time, and finances to support the church, and submitting to the authority of the Church.
Equipped: As believers, we have been equipped for the work of the ministry and the building up of the Body of Christ. Through the work of the Holy Spirit and the truth of God's Word, we are able to bring to fruition God's call on our lives. (Ephesians 4:11, 2 Timothy 2:15)
Encouraged: As we serve, we should encourage and lift each other up. God desires that His joy be evident in our lives as we minister to one another. (Ephesians 5:19)
Enthusiastic: As God's people, we rejoice and celebrate God's goodness in our lives. Our enthusiasm becomes contagious to those around us. (Psalm 32:11. Psalm 95:1)
Evangelistic: We are called to reach out with love, make disciples, and make the Gospel known to the world. (Mathew 28:19)
There is one God, the Creator of all things, who is infinitely perfect and eternally existent in three persons: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is the union of God and man. He is true God and true man, conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life and died on the cross as a sacrifice for the sins of all men. He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and is presently seated at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.
The present day ministry of the Holy Spirit is to comfort and guide the believer, with the purpose of glorifying the Lord Jesus Christ in the earth. During this age, He indwells, guides, instructs, and empowers the believer for godly living and service. Every believer can be filled with the Holy Spirit and be empowered with any of the nine Gifts of the Spirit listed in I Corinthians 12.
Man, beginning with Adam, was created in the image of God but fell into sin, which resulted in his spiritual death and separation from God. Only through belief (faith) in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, who was sent to die and pay the penalty for sin (death), can one receive eternal life and a relationship with God. As a person makes the decision to believe in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and confesses the lordship of Jesus in their life, they become "born again."
The universal church is composed of all those who are born again. Through the new birth, we are united together in the body of Christ. Jesus Christ is the Lord and head of the church and has provided leadership for the local church through the ministry gifts, which only He can give. The church is the body of Christ with divine appointments for the fulfillment of her great commission.
The redemptive work of Jesus not only provides salvation for the believer but also healing and prosperity for our spirit, soul, and body. We are redeemed from the curse of the law - poverty, sickness, oppression, and any other thing that prevents us from fulfilling His plan. Our lives can be prosperous and healthy in every realm as we walk in the light of this redemption by faith in God's Word.
At the end of this dispensation on earth, The Lord will come in the air and the Church (Believers) will be 'caught up' with The Lord. After this, there will be a Tribulation period of approximately seven years. During this time, there will be severe plagues, and God will attempt to turn man to Him. After this time, Jesus will then come to the earth (Second Coming) to establish His physical kingdom and begin His thousand-year reign. Men will be judges and believers will spend eternity with Christ.
At the end of the Millennial Reign and Great White Throne of Judgment, a new heaven and earth will be established along with a new Jerusalem city. There will be no more tears, death, sorrow or pain, and we will live forever in peace with Christ.
We are blessed to be a part of Gateway Church (Southlake) Network Churches. This means they give an Apostolic oversight to our church and provide guidance and training to all of our pastors and staff.
